The great debate

Some of you may know that I am a believer in god...  if you didn't, then this will be news to you.  If you have never heard of me at all, please read on anyway, you may like or hate what I say.

(If you are an atheist and are reading this please let me say two things.
I do not intend to convert you or to convince you that there is a god.  And I am close friends with some atheists and we have agreed to disagree and remain friends, so I mean no offense!)

Just today I was browsing YouTube and came across a video by a very physically attractive girl who spent the entire video listing off reasons and "proof" that there is no afterlife.  Obviously she is a Devout atheist, yes I used the word Devout... why would I use the word devout when describing an atheist?  well, lets refer to a dictionary.
de·vout
/diˈvout/
adjective
  1. Having or showing deep religious feeling or commitment.
  2. Totally committed to a cause or belief.

She indeed sounded very committed to atheism to me.  I say this because it seems to me as if atheism has become a religion all it's own.  A religion of denial to be more precise. I can already hear the (but...but...but)'s coming from a bunch of people, so lets look at the definition of the word "religion"

re·li·gion
/ri-lij-uhn/
noun
1.  a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2.  a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3.  the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4.  the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5.  the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.

Hmm, it would seem that atheism is indeed a religion.  Not convinced?

Lets look at some facts.  look at number two in the definition of religion,  "a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects".   Now I will ask some rhetorical questions.
Are atheists a group of persons?  yes!  Do atheists share the belief that there is no god?  yes!  Is an atheist totally committed to the belief that there is no god? yes (hence devout atheist)!

atheists believe there is no god.. they are a group of people who share that belief... they are committed to the idea of that belief... they often preach that belief to others, primarily to people who do believe in god (spreading the religion)...

Therefore atheism becomes A-theism.  Indeed its in the very word itself, broken apart we see A Theory? or A Theist?  this could be conjecture but the facts remain.... Atheism is in fact a religion of denial of religion!

So when it comes to the aforementioned very attractive girl (whom I will not name to avoid the drama of trolls and hecklers on me or her) what she was doing in her video was performing a sermon.  She was indeed preaching the truth as she see's it.  There is nothing wrong with that at all, but the presentation was an EXACT mirror of what she accuses Christians of preaching... Dogma!  plain and simple.  Now not all Atheists are like that, and those are some that I can love and be friends with, but there are a LOT of atheist's (just like any Evangelical Christian)  who see it as some sort of duty to go out of their way to disprove the existence of god, or an afterlife.  And they get to a point where they are just as dogmatic in that view as the Christians they tend to point fingers at.  SO I am now going to coin a new phrase on that girls behalf!  Atheist Extremist lol.

Joking aside, I choose to believe in god for my own reasons, just like an Atheist chooses to believe in no god.  In neither case is one any less human than the other.  So whether you believe in a god or gods or no god at all, we are all in the same boat, that just happens to be located in a universe that may or may not have been nothing in the beginning, until it exploded!  And that my friends is the core of my own reasoning!  "In the beginning there was NOTHING, then it exploded?".  The way I see it, something does not simply happen from nothing!  even Stephen Hawking is on the fence over that one!

anyway I hope this clears up some confusion

P.S. Thank you for reading and I hope I did not offend, but if I did, then I beg your forgiveness.  I will pray for forgiveness from god tonight!
